UNICEF Representative in Syria, Fran Equiza, visits Areesha makeshift camp for families displaced from Raqqa and Deir-ez-Zor, in Hassakeh, north-eastern Syria.
Areesha camp is one of the transit camps, where 11,000-13,000 internally displaced people from Deir-ez-Zor and Raqqa are seeking shelter. UNICEF has been trucking 300,000 litres of safe water on a daily basis, raising awareness of children and their caregivers on issues related to safe water handling, sanitation and hygiene. UNICEF is also installing latrines and showers. To safeguard the health of children and their mothers, UNICEF is screening for malnutrition and providing basic primary health care.
