Thousands of Syrian refugee children, some as young as 7, spend their days working in the fields in Lebanon. In this photo story, children and women are harvesting potatoes in the Bekaa Valley, where they earn as little as USD $2 a day.

The children arrive at work on the farm first thing in the morning and at the end of the work day they load all the harvested potatoes into a truck to be taken to the market in Bekaa. Once the trucks leave, Syrian refugee children living in a nearby informal tented settlement grab plastic bags and run to the farm to scavenge for any potatoes left behind. Even the smallest potato will contribute to Syrian refugee families’ dinner plates.
