At the Dalhamieh Abu Hussein informal tented settlement in Baalbek, Lebanon, 200 tents are squeezed together on a small piece of land set between a dirt road and surrounding farm land. Children have little or no space to play. Many of the families who have taken refuge here are from Idlib, in Syria. More than 170 children attend a UNICEF-supported informal school run by Beyond Association, a Lebanese non-governmental organization. In December, classes were cancelled because of heavy rain that flooded the school ground. Nine children in the settlement have either lost one or both parents, and are receiving special support from UNICEF.
