As the Syrian crisis enters its fourth year, children are bearing the brunt of the conflict. By the end of 2013, fighting had forced 2.2 million people to leave the country, with more than 200,000 fleeing to Iraq.
Throughout 2013, UNICEF and partners in Iraq helped give more than 20,000 Syrian refugee children access to education and supported 11,000 children to deal with any trauma they’d experienced. We’ve also given helped keep 8,000 Syrian children warm with winter clothing.
Here, children learn in a UNICEF-supported tent school in the Kawergosk refugee camp, just west of Erbil, Kurdistan.
